HOW CAN AI VIDEOS CHANGE THE FILM INDUSTRY?

In recent years, as technologies have been improving with each passing day, machines and artificial intelligence, also known as AI, have become widely used by humans. The most popular AI currently is called Chat GPT, and it has the ability to originally generate any text and answers that people ask it without breaking the law. Now, after many version upgrades and maintenance, Chat GPT 4.0 is created with powerful performance and a full range of functions. It can not only generate text but also images, even realistic videos after input commands by users. Currently, this technology is planned to be used in the film industry as well.

Why was this plan created? First, AI can be the successor of human stunt actors. Studios can employ AI to generate dangerous sequences instead of risking humans. It solves the problem of actor injuries, or even death to get realistic shots and sequences. Using an AI generator prevents these accidents and guarantees the actor’s safety. Moreover, using an AI generator can save a lot of money. It is extremely costly to hire an actor, especially if the actor is a well-known superstar capable of increasing audience rate. The studio therefore needs to pay them a high salary. Furthermore, if the actor is injured, the studio has to bear the high medical bill, adding to the cost. However, if the studio uses an AI generator, their costs will be less than a hundred dollars a month, which is much cheaper than hiring a star for acting.

Nonetheless, there are also disadvantages if we use an AI generator to generate videos. On one hand, it increases the unemployment rate since artificial intelligence replaces those stand-in actors. We all know that no jobs mean no income. In this case, this innovation will also indirectly increase poverty rates. Furthermore, movie producers will start solely relying on using AI generators instead of human filming in the future. Also, since the AI technology is not very mature yet, generative technology is liable to logically flawed depictions of scenes. People cannot completely depend on AI generators.

Admittedly, it is true that the AI video generator is easy to use. Users just need to put in the content they want for the video, and the AI will generate it for them. However, the principle behind it is complicated, and not everyone knows everything about it. Most people do not know how the algorithms work, what language is used behind the generator, and what logic and codes are. Text-to-Video AI generators like Meta's Make-A-Video are typically “developed using a combination of programming languages such as Python, C++, and JavaScript for building the software infrastructure, and other technologies like deep learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow, PyTorch) for training the AI models”. By training on large datasets, “machine learning algorithms learn patterns and correlations that allow them to generate visually coherent videos based on the users’ need”. One of the most significant developments in AI-generated video production is the use of deep learning algorithms to create more sophisticated and realistic video content. “Deep learning algorithms can analyze large datasets of videos to learn how to create new and innovative content”. This technology is related to the innovation of AI image generators in that both of them have almost the same logic and algorithms, while parts of the codes are different. Also, both of them need a framework or frameworks to train the models. As mentioned, the user can type the content in words of what kind of videos they want as input. For the data of the output, the AI generator will find videos that are “manually collected using mobile devices like phones and cameras and manually uploaded through a data gathering platform” to match the demand of the user.

Overall, this is how AI video generators work. The generator hugely affects film industries. People should use them wisely.
